Measure the mug to determine the Mug-cover size

  • 1. Width of cover: Measure from the bottom to the top of the mug ear. Add 2 cm for seam allowance.

  • 2. Length of cover: Measure around the mug from one side of the mug ear to the other side. Add 3 cm for seam allowance, and to form a casing to thread the ribbon (or elastic) through to tie the mug-cover in place.

Cutting out

  • Cut 1 x cover top
  • Cut 1 x cover back. Cut 3 cm shorter than top layer
  • Cut 1 x fusible stabiliser the same size as the cover back

  • 1. Fuse stabiliser to the wrong side of the top layer.

  • 2. Trace the hart template onto the paper side of Fuse & Fix. Cut out 3 mm from the drawn line. Fuse applique paper to the wrong side of the applique fabric. Cut the fabric and applique paper on the drawn line.

  • 3. Remove the paper backing. The glue from the Fuse and Fix will now be on the fabric. Stick the designs in place. No ironing is required. Position designs as needed.

  • 5. Place cover back onto cover front with right sides facing. The cover back will be 1.5 cm shorter on both sides. Sew with a 1 cm seam allowance on both the long edges.  Remove the stabiliser from the seam allowance.

  • 6. HINT: Before turning the cover inside out, iron the seam allowance of the top cover to the inside. (This will help to roll out the edges neatly).

Prepare the message

  • 1. Prepare an embroidery massage or download the embroidery file

  • 2. Hoop stabiliser in a medium sized embroidery hoop. Use a light spray glue to stick the felt onto the stabiliser. Place a layer of dissolvable stabiliser on top of the felt.

Use the basting stitch function to baste the felt onto the stabiliser (see grey icon in right corner of image).
