The BERNINA Shakespeare Costume Design Competition is held in conjunction with the  Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand’s, Sheilah Winn Festival of Shakespeare in Schools.

The annual competition gives students a chance to put their skills onto the national stage by designing a costume for any character from a Shakespearean play.

Kevin Anderson, Country Manager for BERNINA New Zealand, presented the Awards at the culmination of this year’s Festival at Wellington East Girls' College over Queen's Birthday weekend
.
Says Kevin, “The standard of entries this year was exceptional.  We are delighted to see so many young designers with a passion for design and pleased to be able to give them something that will further their interest in sewing and a career in textiles and design."

The winner was Rachel McDonald, Wanganui High School with Titania from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  Wanganui High School students also won 2nd and the two 3rd equal prizes.
