Hello my Sewing Bees, in today's lesson I'm going to show you just how to create a beautiful lettering design with BERNINA Embroidery Software 9. Let's have some fun!

You can download this photo as a reference for your lettering design and Sue's original design as a BERNINA Embroidery Software 9 art-file. The art-file can't be used on your embroidery machine. You need to export it on a USB-stick or via the WiFi-Device as a machine file in order to stitch it out. Check Lesson one if you need a reminder how to export a design to your machine.
To start a new design, open the BERNINA Embroidery Software 9. Switch to "Embroidery Canvas" from the Home Screen. Click the hoop symbol in the top right to display the hoop.
Change hoop to the Medium size: > Right click on "Show Hoop/Settings"
Choose Hoop drop down menu > BERNINA Medium Hoop, 130x100 Make sure Show Hoop is checked. Click "OK".
Open the "Lettering/ Monogramming" Toolbox and choose > Lettering
Click anywhere inside the hoop, a cursor will appear and type a capital letter “S”.
Press the key "Enter" to generate the stitches.
Double click on the letter to open Object properties. Choose the font “Shella” from the drop-down choices. Press "OK".
Deactivate "Proportional scaling" by clicking on > Lock icon.
Change size to a width of 1” x and a length of 3”. Press the key "Enter".
Choose Step Fill in the Stitch Toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
Change color of “S” to Color 10 in the Color Palette.
Open the "Edit" Toolbox and choose > Outlines and Offsets
In the dialog box, check the Object outlines and change the Type of stitch to "Stemstitch" and the Color to # 11. Uncheck "Offset outlines" if needed. Click OK.
Open the "Lettering/Monogramming" Toolbox and right click on Lettering icon. In the dialog box, type in > “ewing”; press Enter > “cissors”; press Enter > “titch”.
Change to Shella font by clicking on the drop-down arrow by Font and select Shella from the recently used fonts at the bottom. Click "OK".
Click to set the words on the screen.
Select the tool Reshape at the top left.
Click and drag on the symbol that appears at the lower left corner of the words to add a little more spacing between the words.
Press the key "Esc" on your keyboard to deactivate the "Reshape" tool. Reselect the words and change the color to # 10.
While the words are selected, click on Break Apart in the "Edit" Toolbox.
Drag a bounding box around the three words to reselect them and click on Space Evenly Down in the "Arrange" Toolbox. While the words are selected, move the three words to align as desired with the capital S.
Drag a bounding box around the capital S. While it is selected, enter 5 degrees in the Rotate By box. Press the key "Enter" to activate the changes.
Select > File > Save As and name the file S is for Sewing.
Send the design to your machine by exporting to a USB stick with Card/Machine Write or via WiFi with Send to BERNINA WiFi Device.
