Here you can find tips on appliquéing the cross, the right stitch length, sewing in the zip between the outer material and the lining and attaching a pull tab for your smartphone. You can find the instructions for the bag and case in the special @ Work issue of Inspiration.
Here we demonstrate how to make these bags for men, based on the principle that pictures say more than words.
The cross on the laptop bag is stuck onto the back with Wonder Tape, thereby securing it on the soft shell fabric. Sew cross underneath. When using leather or synthetic leather, always sew using a minimum stitch length of 3.5 mm; here, we have used 4 mm.
Interior pockets are subjected to heavy stresses, so you should not just stitch them, but should finish with a rectangle or sew a wide bar over the end of the seams. Depending on the thickness of the material, it may be advisable to use a piece of lining fabric or cut-away stabiliser on the back to provide additional protection against tearing.
The zip on the laptop bag is sewn onto the inner lining (silver synthetic leather) with the wrong sides together. The zip tapes meet in the bottom area.
The green exterior is placed over the zip tape so that the zip seam is concealed. Fold over seam allowances. The image shows a view of the inside.
A particularly large number of pins is required for the curves, and they should preferably be inserted on the outside here.
The layers are stitched together from the outside, preferably with Edge stitch foot No. 10. The extra width of the outer fabric in the bottom area is intentional and is pulled flat when the bag is closed.
The large bag includes a compartment for a laptop. It is closed with a wide strap.
The D-rings are sewn onto the bag with a cross.
The threading of the strap buckle often raises question marks in one's mind. Here is the threaded strap buckle from the front and back.
And what does the pull tab on the phone case do? When you pull the tab, the phone comes out automatically.
