Cutting of fabric

The 2 pieces of felt with size 6”x11” (15x28 cm) are cut diagonaly to create 4 pockets in total:

• Measure down 6” (15 cm) from one side and cut a diagonal line from the top corner to this mark (45 degree angle). Save this piece for another pocket. Repeat with other 6”x11” (15x28 cm) piece, cutting the opposite direction, and save the cut piece.

For all 3 pieces of canvas:

• Fold under each long edge and bottom hem ½” (1.5 cm), then press. Fold under ½” again and press. Hem in place.
• Fold under the top edge ½” and press. Fold under again 1 ½” (4 cm) and press. Topstitch in place, leaving a pocket to hold the dowel rod. You might have to adjust the width of the pocket according to your dowel rod.

• Mark vertical center of banner all the way down with the OESD Perfect Pencil.
• Select design O101 from the folder Embroidery Designs>Inspirations>Organizer
• Hoop Stabil-Stick 20”x24” (50x60 cm) in the Giant Hoop with paper side up. Score and remove paper.
• Place the larger canvas on the StabilStick so the hem is aligned with top of hoop and vertical center is approximately in the center.
• Scan the hoop and place the design using Pinpoint Placement so it is centered on the line and the top of the design is just below the hem of the rod pocket.

• Stitch the design using Isacord 3840.
• Repeat for the smaller canvas pieces, stitching design O103 and mirror-imaging the design on one of the pieces so the designs face opposite each other. Stitch with Isacord 3840.

• Embroider Design O102 along the bottom center of the center panel, centering with the marked line and placed so the bottom of the design is approximately 1” (2.5 cm) from the stitched line of the bottom hem.
• Remove all marks with an iron before proceeding.

• Select design O101 from Embroidery Designs>Inspirations>Organizer.
• Under the Edit Menu, Choose Ungroup from the Arrange Submenu.

• Turn on "Multi-Select".

• Select all sections other than the motif in the upper right corner and use delete to remove.
• Tip: you can work in sections: select several pieces and then delete, then repeat until only the motif you want is left.

• Once you have only the portion you want left, Switch to “Select All” to select all the layers and then select "Group" in the Arrange submenu.

• Save the design with the name “Triangle Design”.

• Start over with Design O101 and repeat the entire Step Three process, this time isolating the heart with flower shape. Save with the name “Pocket Heart”.

The procedure is the same for all diagonal felt pockets, they are hooped and embroidered separately:

• Hoop a piece of Stabil-Stick in the Oval hoop, then score and remove paper. Place the felt onto the Stabil-Stick.
• Scan the hoop and use the scan to visually place your designs.
• Embroider your “Triangle Design” on each triangle so that the point of the design faces the 90 degree angle. Use Isacord 2900.
• Embroider your “Pocket Heart” on each slanted rectangle so it is centered in the bottom portion of the pocket. Use Isacord 2900.

For decorative stitching, attach Sideways Motion Foot #40C.

• Stitch a decorative stitch along the diagonal edges of the felt pockets. 
• Use stitch 458 on the rectangles and 722 along the triangles.

• Draw a vertical line along the center of the 6”x15” (15x38 cm) piece of felt.
• Draw lines dividing each half in half and in half again, resulting in 7 lines creating eight equal rectangles.
• Stitch a quintuple straight stitch (713) on the 1^st, 3^rd, 5^th and 7^th lines.
• Select Stitch 458 and increase stitch density to 0.3 mm.
• Stitch 458 on either side of the 1^st, 3^rd, 5^th and 7^th lines, with the straight edge nearest the marked line, aligning the edge of the foot with the line.

• Select stitch #473. Enlarge to 200 % by using the jumbo stitch function.
• Increase the stitch density to 0.25 mm.
• Stitch down the exact center of the 2^nd, 4^th, and 6^th lines.
• Attach Edgestitch Foot #10D. Stitch #713 along the top edge of the pocket, aligning the blade of the foot with the edge of the felt and moving the needle position to -5.

Stitch pockets in place:

• Stitch all felt pockets in place by stitching along the bottom and side edges using stitch #713 at position -5 from the outside edge of the pocket.
• Stitch the divisions into the 6”x15” (15x38 cm) felt pocket by stitching down the 2^nd, 4^th, 5^th, 6^th, and 7^th lines.

• Add rickrack trim to bottom and side edges of vinyl pockets, centering the rickrack over the seams holding the pockets in place. Tack in place by stitching down the center of the rickrack with Stitch #1, backstitching at each end. You will be stitching directly over the stitch holding the pockets in place.
• Add a tassel trim to the bottom of each panel, stitching in place with Stitch #1.
